This study aims to identify the confidence level of public relations students related to the use of profile photos on the WhatsApp application. This research uses a qualitative method with a theory that the researcher has adopted, which is the factors influencing an individual's self-confidence. The study was conducted in Bogor, West Java, and relates to the scope of public relations work that involves many people and the need for confidence. The data collection technique used is purposive sampling. Self-confidence is needed by an individual to optimize their potential, as it relates to the assured feeling that they can do something by their own will, without anxiety about doing things they enjoy and having good interactions with others. The research found that men tend to have less self-confidence compared to women, supported by the existence of social standards factors that show a tendency towards depression factors. Men are often prohibited from freely expressing their emotions and are usually only allowed to show their masculine side, such as having a muscular and upright body, a deep voice, strength, and bravery. This theory is known as Toxic Masculinity and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). Meanwhile, women have a positive effect, which is related to self-esteem evaluation, leading to self-evaluation that is either negative or positive (Social Comparison).

Keywords: Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Self-confidence, Nonverbal communication, Toxic Masculinity
Fajar Yahya Aulyanto
